Chapter History
Waco National Women in Agriculture

Waco National Women in Agriculture Associaton of Texas was
organized January 2015 at the East Waco Library in Waco, Texas.
Kay Bell desired to have a NWIAA chapter in Waco, Texas. She then
called National Women in Agriculture Association’s National President
and founder, Dr. Tammy Steele in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Upon
talking to her she immediately agreed to come to Waco to start the
Waco National Women in Agriculture Association of Texas Chapter.
Kay was appointed president, and three members join her in starting the
Waco NWIAA Chapter. Those members were Lillie Freeman, Jean
Boone, and Linda Weaver. They are the charter members.
Linda Weaver, one of the chartered members so graciously, agreed to
let us ultilize her vacant lot property on Renick Street in Waco, Texas to
begin our Community Garden.

In 2018 former charter member Jean Boone, made contact with the
Waco I.S.D., and ask if we could use the vacant lot across the street
from our garden on Renick. Waco I.S.D. agreed, and we than began our
Pollinator Garden. In 2021 NWIAA member, Chisa Brigham made our
first garden on Renick into the Sankofa Youth Garden. Today both
gardens are flourishing and growing.
